Advertised for $1000, had about 800 callers and you still have it? Doesn't that tell you that it was overpriced?
No, it tells me that I live in the middle of nowhere. I am sure if I was in the US near any major center, it would have sold for 1000. What we are getting at in this thread is this: a non-posi unknown condition rear in a supposed GN frame is not worth a $1000. Period.

Here's my take.

Converter, if gm, is decent scrap value.

Frame may be good, who knows without looking up close of measuring for straightness. Steering box? Sway bars?

Rear end, if open, may have aluminum drums as well. So you get 8.5 plus maybe pair of alum drums that can be sold and replaced with irons.

Engine, unknown condition. But being 85 you get the 20 bolt pan, maybe good timing cover, maybe salvageable crank, plus whatever someone pays for the core engine/heads, 2dot rods, turbo may surprise you and be tight, who knows.

There's a gas tank there. Maybe decent inside, maybe not. Same goes for sending unit.

Is $1000 the steal of the lifetime? No. Is it overpriced as the sum of its parts?

Probably not, and IS a discount depending what is salvagable, at least if you were in the market for more than one of those pieces individually. Would need a good looking over, but, I could easily see money to be made parting it if it wasn't remnants of a stolen car and enough stuff checked out ok.

Then again.... you know, there's a hurst olds also in NJ with a wrecked back end. Pull the body straight, drop it onto that frame.... could be onto something and part out the turbo specific stuff, recoup scrap money off the old hurst's running gear. Nice cheap upgrade

I agree with you! There are so many salvagable parts on this thing and I kinda chuckle to myself on a certain few on here arguing about the rear end value, yet were trying to sell theirs for the same price as this ENTIRE chassis...🤔.. I guess the only way to know is to go check it out, see what's what. Someone somewheres will gladly pay what he wants and make out ok!

For this you show up with $1200 in your pocket, offer the guy $900 ready to pay full asking, and prepare to undercut someone else for another 20% if you need to depending upon how badly you want it.

Last 8.5" I got from a friend for $700 (rusty, chipped tooth, etc), flipped it for $800 when I decided to get an S60 instead; and split the profits with my buddy.

Well, yes it is all about supply and demand. You being in the middle of nowhere, would not get the same price as someone else in a large metropolitan area, and being in the middle of nowhere you also can't ask for big city prices. Even so with that said, there are people (and there seem to be several here) that are willing to pay more than others. But 800 calls and no sale? The people in that person's neck of the woods aren't willing, and agree that, as you said, "it's not worth $1000. Period."

Actually it'd be worth the drive for the PNW crowd...

1,000 Canadian Dollar equals
749.00 United States Dollar

where else you gonna find a deal like that?

Nothing to see, nothing to declare..
It's only 43 hours away for me, one way, so I'm out...
