Yeah they are stronger and come in a cone type posi, non clutch. In my opnion they are just as strong as a 8.5.

Cool......may have to talk some turkey on it, then. Thanks for the help. Probably take all day to take it out of the car, for me!

I have an 8.2 that I have mentioned a few times..it's a 3.08 posi out of a 67 chevelle and I'm installing it soon as I finish the paint job.. I'm using F body rotors with a calliper bracket off of a circle track car with 1980 Seville callipers with the parking brake set up..I've read an 8.2 can easily handle over 500 hp

that picture you have is an 8.2 and the ledge on the cover directs oil to the axle bearings so you have to get the proper gasket or if you using silicone you cannot cover the holes...

Cool! But the pic is actually pontiac455's (if you meant MY pic)......if the 8.2 doesn't have the ledge, is it any less desirable?

I meant pontiac455's pic....and if it doesn't have a ledge it's not a stock cover...or it's not an 8.2. I paid $600 for mine and it took me a year to find it

I know that it isn't rocket science to remove the rear, but any things/tricks/shortcuts anyone know of to help me speed along getting the thing out of the car? I've never done it, but have worked on most of the parts, and am mechanically sound. I just want to get that thing out as fast/easy as I can, with the time I have...got to drive about an hour to work on it.....

OK..I did some research here and there,What can I say "I'm an *ss man"..and like rear ends...Just ask my wife!!!! LOL 8) ,
anyways, sounds like you might have the 8.2...Check out this thread : http://www.maliburacing.com/rearend_guide.html
