If your trying to save weight cause you handling sucks you could also remote mount your battery and I have seen fiberglass bumpers also.... dont know if I would use them on daily driver but a bumper is pretty heavy. I have a 79 elky an I redid suspension n springs front n rear swaybars with 235/60-15's handled pretty good .

I'm having the same debate myself. I want to get a 2" cowl for my Malibu this summer. I want the weight savings of a fiberglass one. But I also want something I can just bolt on and go (my hood is black already), or at least as little as possible. But I also want to make the cowl functional, is that possible with a fiberglass one?

if you guys really want to close up the front and rear weight bias and get the center of gravity lower move the engine back a couple of inches and drop it an inch. You'll have to notch the cross member where the gas pump is or run an electric. I can tell you from working on a G body circle track car that you can remove just about all the sheet metal up front but it's impossible to get the bias where we wanted it running the car at 3150 lbs. If we were allowed to move the engine back and down that would have made it alot easier on us.

Here's something else to consider. If you trying to lose weight just so the car handles better, I spend the money on uprading the suspension.

I can tell you that on my '87 I had put an aluminum intake on the 455 and a fiberglass hood. A stock intake weighed 60LBs and the stock hood was right around 50LBs. The aluminum intake only weighed 30LBS and the fiberglass hood weighed 22LBs.

So I lost 58lbs off the front end. I honestly didn't really noticed the weight difference. Didn't feel or handle any different from the drivers seat.

However upgrading the suspension with new Bilstein shocks, polyurethane sway bushings and end links and going to 17x8" wheels with high performance tires made an absolute drastic change to how the car handled.
