Hi guys
I've finally decided to spray primer on my cutlass myself instead of paying $2,000 for someone else to. I'm still unsure on how to prep the metal for the primer. I plan on using epoxy primer because the car will be in primer for awhile. I'm tasked with getting the surface rust off the bare metal. I've been told numerous methods of how to do this but no one can ever seem to decide what is the best way. I don't have the money to get the car blasted and from what I've read with me doing it at home will then be very miserable due to how the soda blast will pack into corners. I think I will need to sand as much rust as I can off then use a rust neutralizer. I would like some recommendations of products you have used and got good results with. And no I'm not just going to clear the car and keep the patina look

Do you have a 6" da sander and an air compressor? That's what I would use with 80grit just keep it flat agent the car and don't dig at it with the edge of the pad then hit it the same way with 180 if it still shows scraches go 320 wipe it down with a prepsol or highsolv product tape it up with a good masking tape and hit it with a self etching epoxy primer as far as products find out what paint the shop painting it is using and use that brand so later you know there won't be any problems

So, you going to sand the metal to soda can thickness? I was throwing out a somewhat economical solution. You'll need something to get into the pits, or it will just bubble underneath that expensive paint.

I said it before, and I stand by it...that car needs to be blasted to stand a chance of having a successful long-term outcome.

If you're going to shortcut it, why bother at all?

That level of corrosion is not just going to magically be cured by halfway measures.

Unpopular opinion, I know. The truth often is.

That's why in the past I told him I would look into media blasting as a body man of 30 years I know that por15 will void any paint manufacturer warranty I do late model collision in a drp production shop every car I do as a lifetime warranty so part of my job is knowing what not to do don't get me wrong por15 is great I did my frame on my pickup with it but it's not getting a urethane bace clear paint job over it

Look up dustless blasting the equipment is crazy expensive so maybe you can get a deal from someone trying to make a payment on there new db500 mobile
