Hey all i'm building a 327 for my 87 buick regal. Keep in mind it is going to be backed up by 3:73 gears and a saginaw 4 speed so stall isnt an issue.
Base is a 62-63 327 shortblock
I am going to run a xr268r cam that has a 552 lift
Flat top pistons
with an rpm air gap intake
edelbrock 650 carb

Now my question is....heads. I Have access to the following
882 casting heads 76cc chambers have a guy who could give me 2.02 and 1.6 valves in these
601 casting which is i believe is 55cc or around that area
Or a vortec head... So many choices
All I am really looking for is a nice lopey sounding cam and something that i can still rev a little. Gas mileage is not an issue i just want something to have fun in and dont mind running 93 all the time
Thanks in advance for all the help guys sorry if i come off as newbish this is my first shot

882 are good street heads
not to sure on the 601 with the 55cc but with the flat tops ur comp ratio is gonna be kinda high. maybe a little to high for 93 unless u sacrifice on timing. look up the piston part number ur running and u can find some specs on compression ratio to cc size.
but personally if i had access to the vortecs i would go with those or the worked 882 with os valves. u might be able to pull a little more power out of those vortecs with some cleaning in the ports. just remember u got to run a different manifold due to bolt pattern and that cam is a solid roller?

ya mistake on the cam probably will run the 280xfi and I am currently using camquest and they said with the 55 cc heads my compression ratio would be like 13.5:1 which is obvoiusly way too high. What were the stock valve size on the vortecs and any thoughts on the rpm air gap with that cam?
