First Vehicle You Bought Yourself

My first car was an 81 Grand Le Mans 4 door, dark blue. Bought it in 89 with 100,00 km, sold it in 92 with 200,000 km. When I was in college it was my moving van, and when I went out with my friends it was the bus. My best memories were going camping, at least a dozen times with that car. Canoe camping, wilderness camping, winter camping. Fortunately the car had a good heater!

My first car I bought myself was a late 60's Opel Commodore A Coupé GS/E. Had the fuel injected 2.5 litre inline six with the TH180. For that time is was a pretty fast car over here, but a rust bucket from hell.

Random internet pic, hove no pics of my cars before 2002

My parents gave me the choice of either buying my car or paying the insurance. So I bought my first car at 15. My 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ for $900. That was back in 1990 and I still have the car and am waiting to build my garage so I can get it home to redo the car thee way I want. I've had a thing for 79 GP's since.

Let me first say I'm 35 now. I started shopping for a Cutlass when I was 15. Looked at a couple when I was 16 but they were rusty sh*t for $1500 or more

First vehicle I ever bought myself was my first car. The way it should be. When I was 17 I bought a 1987 Plymouth Sundance, had a 2.5 out of a K-car instead of the 2.2. Damn thing burnt at least a litre of oil a day. Big cloud of smoke out the back of this shitbox, real james bond stuff...

My then girlfriend, now wife was looking for something to paint, and I was like. Hell, let's brush paint my car. Painted flames down the sides to explain the blue smoke... LMAO.

Little kids loved it for some reason, adults used to flag me down in parking lots to ask me if I
"really thought that car was cool"

They just didn't get the joke. Lol

One week after I bought this pos for $700 somebody offered me an 87 Thunderbird for $1000
Jesus, I had a convertible Dodge Shadow that I delivered pizzas in for a year or two. That 2.5 ate head gaskets like they were going out of style. I actually took that car to my junior prom and had the head gasket blow while waiting in the prom line. I got to watch my car get valeted away in a cloud of antifreeze smoke as we walked in the building. My date wasn't laughing nearly as hard as I was. Good times.

Imagine this with way more duct tape.

Always favored luxury over sport or performance so my first car was a 1970 Chev. Caprice coupe in 1973. 46,000 mi. at purchase time. Gobi beige with a gold vinyl top & gold cloth brocade interior. 400 small block which put out 265 hp. First car in my family with a/c. Living in N. Mn. growing up the old man would always say about a/c "don't need that up here." LOL! He had to co-sign since I was 18 but it was my money at $2300. I added fender skirts & a Delco Am-Fm stereo to it. Had the color keyed wheel covers. Fun thing was the old man had a '70 Impala at the time so I one-upped him. Hee-hee. As a stoic survivor of the Great Depression he was not impressed.
Unfortunately, I wrecked it twice in 2 years & sold it to a Chev. salesman & bought a '72 triple black Caprice coupe with a 400 (402) big block. With dual exhaust it put out 240 hp.
'70 Caprice in the photo is not mine but almost a twin. Black '72 is mine behind my parents' house.

I had worked at a Wendy's when I was 15 and saved for a car. My grandfather said he would pay the first insurance bill if I bought a car. After I got my license at 16, I bought a relatively well used 1970 Impala 2-door with a 454. Dark green, black vinyl top, with dark green interior and A/C. Bench seat, column shifted TH350. It was a pretty nice car. It was a notchback style rear window so the trunk was H-U-G-E. Lotta friends would pile in to go partying. This was in 1981.

This is not my car, but just representative photos. Same interior, but mine was the dark green paint exterior.

Wish I still had it.
