Fishing 2021

Death😁. I received many while dating thankfully.

What size is that Lund? I had an 18 footer. Best damn boat ever. In other news I took my daughter and two grandkids out. Nothing all day until just as we were about to go in. I nailed two keeper Fluke in 8 feet of water right up against the shoreline. Both on leadhead jigs and grub tails tipped with squid strips.

It is the 16 ft Fury tiller, lots of storage and a live well. Super light, just over 1000 pounds, boat, motor and trailer. Because it is so light, the 25 HP Mercury EFI 4 stroke really moves the boat, could pull a tube plenty fast and uses hardly any 91 non ethanol Premium.

Mine was a 1969 rental skiff. I had a '69 Johnson 40 but it broke. I tried a '72 Evinrude 125 and I still can't get the stains out of my shorts. I have used a 48 but it was too fast for a flat bottom hull. I dropped down to an Evinrude 35 and it was perfect. I even managed to drop it off the trailer hard on the concrete ramp and it just shrugged it off. Damn tough boats.

My one real complaint was no spot to mount a transducer. I JB Welded a block to the back of the boat. It came loose and lost part of the mount on Fishing Lake, trailing like snake. There is a telescoping pole mount I plan on getting.

And probably need this replacement to mount it.

For those who don't know, we rarely catch in over 10 feet of water so a depth finder is very handy. Probably 30 to 40 today, smallest caught by me, just under a pound. The largest was a 23" Walleye caught by someone else🤔. 20210726_092835.jpg20210726_102151.jpg20210726_103101.jpg20210726_104621.jpg20210726_104628.jpg20210726_111624.jpg20210726_132412.jpg20210726_150543.jpg20210726_154735.jpg20210726_155355.jpg20210726_160054.jpgimage000000(53).jpgimage000000(54).jpgimage000000(55).jpgimage000000(56).jpgimage000000(57).jpgimage000000(58).jpgimage000000(59).jpgimage000001(4).jpgimage000002(2).jpg

I did that too. It came loose. So I did the unthinkable: I drilled holes for stainless steel bolts and mounted a block of mahogany wood to the transom. I sealed it to the hull with GLUVIT which is an epoxy that stays a bit flexible when cured. I used the GLUVIT all over the wood too since it is waterproof. Then it was easy to mount the transducer with stainless wood screws. I trailered for many years then I docked it in salt water the last 10 years. 30 years later when I was selling the LUND, I removed the mahogany wood and it was as good as the day I mounted it. I just sealed the screw holes with Marine Tex and painted over the spot.

My daughter works at a place where they throw a fishing trip once a year. She sneaks me on board. Not much to say as everything was throwbacks. Except this huge Porgy. Biggest I have ever seen . It was a foot long and weighed a couple of pounds. GOOD EATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1628207788555.png

This is my addition to the boat, hoping for a good year next year with Katherine.

That looks pretty cool. My biggest problem on the Lund was that the hull strakes caused turbulence/air bubbles and that interfered with the transducer signal at speed. I tried many locations but eventually the only spot it worked was almost right next to the engine lower unit. Even then the signal often got scrambled. So the deeper the transducer is below the hull the better but then that increased drag. Tough call on aluminum boats.

Hit my local river today...a couple miles from my house. My friend Bruce caught these 2 small mouth on the same lure at the same time on some ultralight equipment. Ignore that dipshit in the back ground.
