I have a problem with my frame on my Regal. Where the trans crossmember bolts up on the drivers side, the bottom piece of frame that comes off the main frame is rotted. Any ideas on how to strengthen this? The main rail is good, its just the wing that comes off it that is bad... about 1/2 inch from weld seam.
if you can cut the rust out back to find good metal you could stitch weld a plate the length of the rocker. However I don't think you will find much solid to weld to once you start cutting out the rust. Likely a lot of flex in there too. The "right" way would be to pull the body off the frame. That way it can be squared up before trying to repair that spot. If the body is good enough to warrant you may find an complete frame from another car cheaper than trying to repair this one.

I hate to tell you this, but that whole frame rail, not just the crossmember mount is terminally rusted out, and chances are there is extensive rust in other hard to see places. NY road salt has killed that car. Best thing to do is part her out. Road salt is evil nasty stuff.

I have literally been over every inch of the frame, even over the rear axle and there is no other trouble spots. It will be fixed in the spring, I already had a guy look at it who is a certified welder and he says it's fixable.
