Fridge Resto-Mods...

They should. The Frigidaire was in use 2 years ago when I emptied the food out of it and moved it out of my Grandpa's garage. The other has been sitting a bit longer but was in use up until it was moved to my house. I plugged them both in right before I tore them apart and each one kicked on. The chords need to be replaced for sure. Even if I get all done and they die shortly after they'd still make a cool gun safe or tool storage.

I love what you are going with the refrigerators. I have a newer style (late 60s) one that I use in my shop. It was looking pretty bad and out of place when I started filling the office area with my Granddads antique tools. This is what I did with mine.

The “CRIaP RR Galesburg” on the front stands for Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Rail Road which was who Granddad worked for in 1920-21.

That IS cool. Rod storage on the bottom shelf? My grandpa had a post vice very similar to yours. It's still bolted to my brother's work bench. He bought their house after my grandma passed. Old guys have cool tools...and lots of junk too  .

I got the fridge sanded back down yesterday and my brother resprayed it last night. It's flippin cold outside right now but I'll get a couple pics and post em up soon. Thanks for the positive comments guys.

Mystery black from an unmarked can. Very light subtle metallic in it. The other color is Harley Davidson Pewter Silver. There's a couple little saggers that need to be cleaned up but otherwise it came out really nice. We had the booth up to 75* but got down to mid 40s after running the fan for a few minutes so we were expecting some run issues. All in all I'm really pleased. Now I need to start polishing all the chrome and put it back together. Some red pinstripes coming soon.

Looks great! I think the pewter and black look great together. It seems like this time the finish came out well. You continue to make me jealous of all of your projects and your paint booth(not to mention having a brother who looks to be pretty damn good at paint and body work). As always, keep it up and I'll be watching for the latest updates and finished product.

Man that is going to look great.

"...Rod storage on the bottom shelf?...."

Yup. I have an old arc welder I use for the heavy duty stuff. When I took a welding course several years ago there was also a fair amount of that dern old book learnin. One of the things that was pointed out was that when the humidity rises the flux around the welding rods will absorb moisture and end up not welding well......something that I had discovered a long time ago using older welding rods that had been stored in an open can. The refigerator keeps them "fresh" which is especially nice for some of the welding rods that I only use occasionally (like the nickle rods).

A few years ago my wife's grandmother was in the process of moving and she had a frigidare very similar to the one you just painted or at least from the same era, she was going to get rid of it and it still worked, I snagged it and it sits in my shop still running today. I think you just gave me some inspiration to tare it apart and do a paint job. Very nice work on yours by the way it looks great!

Thanks. It's more labor intensive than it seems. I'm in the process of cleaning and refinishing the racks and trim right now. There's a spot on the top edge of the door my brother isn't pleased with and wants to redo. He has another job in the booth right now so it may be a week or two before he gets back to it. For now they just sit in the corner. I'll update when something happens.

That's a cool lookin' fridge. My folks had an old GE that they bought new in '54. I wish I kept it today. Believe it or not, it still operated great when they got rid of it several years ago. The new one couldn't hold a candle to the old GE.
It had nice chrome trim, script lettering, and looked like a car out the '50's. My dad and I painted it with marine enamel years before that. It still looked good. Not too energy efficient, but what the hey, it worked like a charm.

I'd like to find an old round chrome toaster from the '50's. It's on my bucket list.

Yes, those are way cool and that one is looking better than new! I had an old one down my basement and it wasn't cooling very well, and the thermostat was totally unavailable. So I figured I had nothing to lose by opening up the thermostat and trying to fix it. Turned out there was a coiled bi-metal spring in there that was fairly adjustable, and by turning it too many times, the fridge became a freezer! Lasted for many years as a freezer too.
