yup, it is huge, the studs for our wheels are 12 mm
Steve,
I caught myself later on....kind of a delayed reaction if you will. 14mm is large, and like you said compared to 12mm wheel stud which is on our cars.
Thanks for the wake up call...;)

A 14 x 1.50 tap should be a pretty common size.

Sorry, I was actually thinking M8 x 1.5.... M14 is rather large, isn't it?
yup takes a 1/2 inch drill to bore the hole for the tap

They are nice little inserts, Stainless steel. Will replace the bolt with a SS 10mm socket cap screw and lock washer.

We dont have the tool to beat down the locking keys so ill have to get creative lol

Hoffa, I may be wrong but will there be enough meat for that insert to grab and hold?

Longroof mentioned nutserts as a possibility. I think that's the easiest way to achieve your result. Buy a rivnut insert (M10 1.5) then youtube to see how people install them with out the tool will also be the cheapest. I like rivnuts in an instance like this because you can re-tighten them at a later stage if they ever come loose.

Here's a used Rivnut tool on ebay if you want to go up that route... http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5335822911&icep_item=293255264224

And here's another more complex way to achieve the result....
