I would more likely think that the valley pan gaskets are more designed for ease of installation than for thermal reasons. After all, most GM intakes have an exhaust crossover. Just my two cents..
Probably, but I didn't mean the BOP intake gaskets, catalogs like Jegs sell sheetmetal oil shields that fit into the lifter valley of SBCs but are not part of the intake gaskets. Even factory SBC intakes have a oil shield rivited to the bottom of the intake to protect the heat crosssover. I guess if you ran vortec heads with the GM Qjet vortec intake manifold, you would avoid some of this with the lack of a heat crossover.
