Fuel tank differences/interchange

I have a TBI Monte tank in my 85 4 door. The only issue I've seen is the tag bracket being pushed out a little- easy fix.
I'm pretty sure the senders are the same fitment with the difference being the pump provision.

I have an 85 GN tank with the pump and it looked identical to the tank I removed. I removed the pump to inspect it and the tank was the same as my tank with the sender

It's definitely the filler neck differences from my experience. I put in a GN replacement tank from Spectre since it had the front/rear and side to side baffling my original carb tank did not have. Always had the < quarter tank, scooting around turn fuel starvation issue as a result. I know some are not fans of Spectre but I've had mine in car for 12+ yrs, and it's held up nice with no paint, or undercoating on it. It accepted the Racetronix GN Sender with Walbro Pump just fine (also 12 yrs ago) and been great as well.

So here's a pic of the Spectre tank with the three different filler necks offered (you can buy them separately) and then solder in the one you need. I have a friend that swapped in a GN tank directly to a Cutlass (like mine) and the neck would rub the bumper cover behind the license plate door because of the angle/shape of the neck.

so that spectre tank you have pictured will fit my 1980 olds cutlass? i am thinking of putting f.i in and ditching the carb.

That I can't tell you with certainty, you will need to look up the right application for your specific vehicle. In my cases, we have the OEM application for Buick GN that is an EFI car (with additional in tank slosh baffling), and we know the fuel tank (filler neck notwithstanding) will direct "swap" into another similar year(s) G-Body (ie; 84-87? Cutlass, Monte, Grand Prix). I've heard that some year Monte Luxury Sport (LS) years with 4.3L TBI EFI have similar swappable tank with other G Bodies too, but YMMV.

I would do your research on what your options are out there both OEM (swap), and perhaps an aftermarket/custom EFI compatible tank.

Here's the Spectra online catalog and a good place to start imho.

So how do you remove a filler neck, and install a new one?

I'm not a fan of the OE style EFI tank baffling. I'll be looking toward the aftermarket next time around.
