Well I wouldn't flick a lighter right next to it but both my cars are vented and in an enclosed heated garage and I have never had any fuel smell ever in there.
What exactly is your concern?

Like I stated in the post. Gas fumes. Ive got both cars in my garage next to a fairly large gas powered JD garden tractor. The cap on the JD is vented but no matter what the temp is I never small gas in my garage. The Modine heater I have has a sealed combustion chamber so thats not an issue. I just dont want my garage to smell like gas all the time. Thats why I keep gas cans in a shed.

My heater is sealed also but I have gas cans and usually 5 gallon jugs of race fuel also in my garage but non of the containers have open vents, my Monte has had a fuel cell with an open vent for 30 years in this garage never been an issue.

I'll get the part number off the cap if its not worn away.
I still have to put the plate pocket back in later today. One thing that I still dont fully understand. Until its upside down that Holley vent is basically just a piece of aluminum with a small piece of wire mesh at the end. How does that prevent fumes ? I can understand the charcoal canister but this has me confused.

Without going into a long explanation there is a ball bearing laying on a seat. Normal driving vibration and bumps allow movement allowing air in and out. Normal sitting in the garage fumes only go out and only if enough pressure change occurs. So basically no constant fumes. Also if the car rolls over the bearing falls to another seat not allowing fuel to spill out. That was as short of an explanation as I could conjure up.

Theres a reason Im concerned. I recently heard about a guy in my area that had a small fuel spill in his garage. Really small amount of gas got on the the floor as he poured it .Of course the fumes from the spill stayed low. As soon as he turned on the torpedo heater he had an explosion. I know thats an extreme case but considering I have both cars and a crapload of tools and equipment in my garage I'd hate to have a problem due to a $20 aftermarket vent. I just want to make 100000% sure this thing works before I start putting gas into the tank.

Torpedo heater is the issue not the vent.

nobody here will likely ease your worried mind. If you smell fumes don’t light up. Just common sense.
