Had that on my wifes Skoda a couple years ago. Spring broke at about 30mph in a left turn.
Must be something in the quality of springs beginning early 2000's, never was a big issue before.
 
Happened on my wife's 2002 Saturn while driving a few years back. Few rolls of duct tape and two cans fix a flat, grind the end of the spring off and be good to go.😀
 
it does suck that it was a new tire that got destroyed but in a way that is a good thing, I had tires with about 70% left and one got the sidewall torn, I didn't want one brand new and 3 used winters so I ended up getting 4 new and sold the 3 for peanuts
