Well we both got lucky this didn't happen at speed, I replaced both my front struts with loaded struts for fear that the passenger side might do the same thing.
All four ordered. Do I have too have it realigned after replacing the struts?
 
Probably should. I came into possession of one of these years ago.

So I can check camber angle before then reset it after it's back together.

Looks like there are some pretty inexpensive versions available.

It's obviously not the same as a proper alignment but can help you get it right where it was before you took it apart.

this is from a Taurus forum...

"Theoretically if your alignment was perfect and if you did not jostle anything when you changed the struts, and if the new struts are made with the spring seats exactly the same and the tabs exactly the same so your ride height didn't change, the alignment *shouldn't* move. In real world situations, having to pound on the knuckles to slide the struts out, plus any change in ride height from the strut spring seat and tabs being made any different, will affect the alignment angles. "
