Two things:
First of all, the OP didn't say anything about it being functional strictly at WOT, merely that he was looking for ideas that others had done. I'm sure if he wanted a factory functioning cowl induction setup c/w the flapper like the Camaros and Chevelles had, he would have mentioned that. In which case, he can expect to pay hundreds for repop factory pieces from places like Year One, OPG and others and adapt them to work with his combination.

Secondly, if you think sealing the housing to the underside of the hood is an easy solution that anyone could do and not a true functional cowl induction, I'd love to see the photos and write up on what you've done on yours to make it a truly functional setup.

Wtf is your problem? No need to be such a douschbag. I read what he posted and gave a light hearted 'tongue in cheek' reply. Apparently you didn't get that. A 'functional cowl scoop' doesn't nessesarily mean 'sealed with foam and that's it' anyway, but you probably already knew that since you're such a smart guy ( or are you just a smart *ss? ).

Added a smiley to my op to solidify my post was meant as tongue in cheek to avoid anyone else getting butt-hurt....

As far as cowl induction goes I have opened it up under my stock hood to see what effect that has. When raining you can see the droplets getting sucked into the engine compartment. I am trying to get a fiberglass hood made with a small rise and a dip close to the windshield to make it a low pressure area to draw in more cooler air than what is pulled in now. I want to try to keep it stock looking.

Whoa there big guy. You're over-reacting to a perceived slight that was never intended.
I was just pointing out that without spending hundreds of dollars in factory style pieces to make it fully functional like the factory did, most people are usually satisfied with sealing off the intake system from the hot underhood air. And as far as requesting to see what you have done differently, that request was genuine. I always love to see new solutions to old problems.
It's unfortunate to see that you automatically assumed I was attacking you, as I wasn't.

I like the air box design, but I think it's suited more for an open plenum hood, whereas the cowl hood with the already formed integral airbox would just require an oversize air cleaner housing with a good seal between that and the hood.
Just my observation.

OEM cruise control used to have a huge diaphragm to pull on the carb linkage. I wonder if you could rig up carb vacuum so that a bit after you mash the pedal, the diaphragm could pull a door grafted onto the back of the cowl hood open?

Cool idea!
Love to see someone try it!

On vettes they had a switch on the gas pedal that would trigger the flap solonoid to open the flap when you when to put the pedal to the floor. In 75 they designed the flap to open soon as the engine warmed up and remain open.

This may sound silly but what about rigging up a servo, like the one these guys use on scale model aircraft to control the flaps and ailerons and such. I know they are strong enough. Just a couple of wires and it could be opened or closed with the flick of a switch , or some other way.

I used an 18" aluminum cake pan with the moroso foam. I can't remember the base height I have but it allows me to run a 4" tall filter on top of a Quickfuel 750, 1" spacer and air gap intake on my 496. Thats only with a 2" steel Goodmark cowl hood as well.

I used masking tape and wheel bearing grease to make sure the foam contacted the hood all the way around.
