Garage Heat!

I went more expensive than everybody else, I have 11 foot high ceilings in my 24X32 garage. Over 15 years ago I put in sealed tube heat on the ceiling. I can spray paint or use gasoline with no danger of a fume fire. It heats the floor then radiates throughout the garage. I have plumbing running at the ceiling for the upstairs bathroom. Everything is insulated and drywalled but I keep it at 50 degrees all winter as insurance. When I work in there I put it at 70. The natural gas bill never went up by more than a few dollars. It WAS pricey at $2,500.00 installed at the time, but I would do it again.

I've had a Berko 7.5K in my 24X32 for years. Bought it off Craiglist. It is well insulated. I've never noticed a huge jump in electric bills, but I only heat it when I'm out there. it's like running the dryer, only uses electric when you need it. I'm with the OP, no fumes to worry about, and the wife doesn't complain about the stink in the garage from propane.

I've used a forced air fuel oil furnace from a mobile home. I run it on a mix of diesel fuel and waste engine oil. No smoke from the exhaust, I keep the garage at 40° all the time, and 65-70° when I'm out there working. Costs me about $200/winter to heat give or take. The red gear oil keg is my fuel tank. 5 quarts of used oil per 5 gallons of diesel fuel.

I run a 45000 btu propane hanging furnace and use 2 100lb bottles with a switching valve from a camper so i can switch without unhooking or take the empty to get refilled while having the other still going. Two tanks usually last me the winter in central il. Insulated garage, only on when im out there

Like the forced air idea. I had a ceiling mounted in my old uninsulated 2 car, 30k btu if I recall, and it ate propane. My new attached garage is unheated, but, air sealed and insulated just like the house (2 years old) so super efficient with 2.5 air changes and hour. I've been using a little LP or my tiny kerosene this winter, I would like to add the LP heater to the roof to this garage though because I have it, but the electric looks enticing.

Rural King has a similar version, 7500 watt for around $150. It claims 31.5 amps. It pulls just under 30 amps. Yes not efficient as a gas model but who really cares when your freezing.

I run the same heater as olds307 and 403 and would highly recommend it. I've had it for 15 years and it's been flawless. It's on all winter and I don't even notice it on my gas bill. The garage is 24x24 and my house is over 2500 sq ft. Both the house and garage are well insulated and my gas bill this month is $59.00
What?? What are you paying for gas? My electric bill is $150 month and I’m happy that I heat my garage (insulated decently) with about 40-50 gallons of propane per month at $2-2.50 a gallon.

Holy showers is that fargin’ cheap.
