HI all. I'm new to gm, also new to the 82 Caballero I just bought. I need help. None of my gauges work. It's a v6, auto. It does have cruise control. I'd love to go cruise but I have no speedo/or fuel gauge. The others don't work either. I have a fairly good mechanical background. Please help

I think you will have to pull the instrument cluster and start investigating. The fuel gauge, idiot lights, and lighting could be something electrical, but the speedo itself is just a mechanical cable so it is suprising that it isn't working. It might be disconnected behind the instrument cluster or if there is a splice for the cruise control if it is an aftermarket unit.

Sometimes when someones been jacking around with the gauges, you hear an audible,"twang" coming from them. Thats a pretty good indication they need attention.

Here's a great resource for the wiring diagrams, which should be a big help. Check the gauges fuse. Maybe you'll get lucky and get temp, oil, volts, and fuel back with just a fuse.

Push and wiggle the gauge cluster around a bit with the car running see if any of the gauges start to work or at least register.

I agree with what Turna suggested above...in some cases the cluster plug connection doesn't make good contact with the cluster.

Are the clock holder and tach holder different pieces,or just plug and play?

Back to basics. Check ALL fuses with a volt meter or test light. If good take test light to temp and oil pressure switch wiring connector with key on. When you touch the wiring the gauge should max out. Same with fuel sender but may peg to empty. If they do, you have a sender issue. If not could be gages, dash connection or printed circuit. I would recommend a test light and not a straight ground. On the speedo my guess is cruise transducer failed and killed the lower speedo cable. Disconnect speedo from transducer to dash an spin inner cable. Does speedo move? Do this and let me know
Cheers
