Uploading pictures is what gives you the small "thumbnail" you see. They can get a little larger based on the dimensions but you are still limited to a certain file size. The way to get the larger pictures is to link to an image online by using the "Img" box (its above where you type your post 2 buttons to the left of the Normal/Font size drop down. Click it and two img placeholders appear. Cut and past the web address of the photo you want in between the two links.
I use Dropbox to share my photos (Note: photos must be in the public dropbox folder for this to work). Others use photobucket. One thing to keep in mind - if you ever delete the picture from your online storage it won't be seen here.
