Gear ratio help

I just want something that has decent acceleration for what I’m running/good highway driving or fuel economy somewhat, because I find with the setup with my motor it’s going to be running around 1800-5800 rpm and with my 2.29 rear end it just seams that it would take so long for the powerband to get up to par, so far I have seen for recommendations, the 3.08, 3.23, or the 3.42, anything that I have heard below 3 is not good for a somewhat high rpm engine because of the powerband.
I haven't seen what size tire you're using. If short, stockish size tires, then the 3.08 is what you should use for what you're describing ^^^^. If money is tight, leave the open diff - one wheel peel isn't the end of the world.

Another wrench to throw into the works that warrants mentioning...7.5/7.625 carriers (Open or limited slip) have a ratio divide. 3.08 down uses a 2 series carrier, 3.23 up uses a 3 series carrier.
On my first 79 Monte Carlo I had the 2.29 gear behind a 406 small block with a slightly loose 2500 stall torque converter and 26 inch tall (225/70R/14) tire. Was not a bad combo for the budget I had to work with on a street driven / Cruise night car. Later went to a Auburn Pro Series (Clutch Cone) limited slip unit with 3.42 gears and same tire size when the budget allowed. With the 406 and the 2.29's it was quite the "Burnout for distance" car despite only burning the rear right.
