Would a rear axle assembly from a GM Passenger car fit on my 2 door 83 Cutlass? Its an 8.5" 10 Bolt so I think it will bolt right up, also has posi. I know my driveshaft will have to be shortened but other than that, shouldn't it just bolt right up to the existing suspension mounts and such?
The axle will be wider than a stock G-body rearend if it's not out of a G-body. What GM passenger car are you talking about? 80's B-body? Some of the earlier A-body cars would be close but the trailing arm angles are different.
As far as i know you will need custom adjustable control arms high and low to get the correct pinion angle. Also, it's wider so you will need wheels with added backspace.
There are many threads on this, so dont trust me just yet. Do a search here.
I know they make 64-72 A-body adaptor arms. Your Impala reaend will either need new upper and lowers welded on or adaptor arms made. But I think it still won't fit because of the width. I'm not sure of the exact width but 74 Impala are land yachts and I also think they have the 5x5 wheel bolt pattern.
