Got a Buick 455 for $25

but, you would want to recalibrate the Quadrajet and probably want to provide it with the correct exhaust manifolds..

$25 sounds like a good deal to me. I agree with the others who said pull both valve covers and oil pan. Check the inside of the engine out and see what it looks like. Using a light amount of oil in the cylinders to help loosen it up sounds like a good idea. Post a pic or two of the engine when you get a chance. We'd love to see it.

It was a great deal, and I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I kinda care that it's all Oldsmobile, but the fact that I won't have to pull the drivetrain in and out several times to get the motor mount frame pads in the right place appeals to me.

No, I know that if I use the BBB, I have to get new motor mounts and motor mount plates, center the drivetrain and go through that whole process. I'm wondering if an OLDS 455 would mount right in without having to move the plates (though with new motor mounts).
If you had an A body you would be good to go. Im not sure about a G Body. I have a Pontiac g body. To install a Pontiac 400 I had to use 301 mounts and air cleaner to get the hood shut. You could have a similar problem. Good luck

Finally taking possession of this BBB, and I have a local shop that specializes in BOP, and I am going to have their engine builder give it a look-see. Stupid question -- would an Olds 455 "bolt right in," without the headache of changing/moving the mount pads?

Thanks!
As said a 455 will bolt right in. What hasn't been said is you must run the shorter 307 mounts and you must custom lengthen your A/C bracket and run a very short air cleaner. An Olds 307, 330, 350 or 403 is your only direct swaps. Any of those is a nice improvement over the 260, which someone stuck in my 70 S. Thank goodness they threw on dual exhaust and I added a 10" chrome "Oldsmobile" top on the factory filter. Added more air and looked better. The 455 Buick is cool but go over the motor as said, make sure the front cover and oil pressure are both good.

Thanks. I found a 73-76 Toronado engine.i think thats much less work than the BBB. Plus,it runs. No difference in a block from a fwd vehicle,i guess?
So i would buy cutlass mounts from like an 85 with the 307 and drop it in?

Thanks for the patience!

Tom

Yes, those mounts will work. I believe the oil filter adapter and exhaust manifolds are different. A 307 rwd oil filter adapter will fit.

This Olds 455 I got is a Toronado motor out of a motorhome. It has true dual exhausts, so I think I can use those. Do you know where I can source the 307 oil filter adapter from? Thanks!

The only place that has them new is Rocket Racing. They are an improved design with no bypass but cost $125! A junk yard is your best bet, everything I have found online is for the sbc.
