Ok. My '85 GP lately has been getting stuck on fast idle and it's a pain trying to get it off. I still have stock engine in her. No other problems at all with it just it gets stuck and fast idle and when I go to shut her off she sputters and won't let me shut her off. It doesn't do it all the time just on some occasions. How I have to get it off is tap the gas and hope it jumps back down out of fast idle. Any thoughts?

check throttle cable make sure its not getting hung up on air cleaner etc... or check the spring could have broke or came off..
Sounds like you've lost some spring pressure in the coil spring for your choke and need to make a slight adjustment to your choke setting.
spray the carb down with some good carb cleaner that has a lubricant in it...it may be just dirty and sticking
