It wasn't the "best" GN as it was an 86, but it was still a GN. Why didn't he ruin an 84 or 85? No one likes those and can be had for under 5k running and driving in decent shape.
86 and 87 GNs were identical with the exception of a couple of cosmetic changes (I assumed you were implying 87 had superior performance to 86 - which is not true).

Regardless.....it his car to do what he wants with it.

'87's are the "me too" GN and '86's are actually better.

'86 could get Electronic Climate Control (not available in '87) AND all '86's have Aluminum bumper supports (all '87 GN's have heavier steel bumper supports), nearly a 30lb weight difference.

The HP difference is a paper difference. Car & Driver estimated the '86 they tested had 290 Hp.

Occasionally, someone will tell me the would like to buy an 87 rather than an 86 GN because it has 10 additional hp.

Truth is ........ that published hp figures for both years understated the actual performance of the car. It was a strategic move to not offend the flagship corvette yet still appeal to potential buyers that make decisions based on advertised hp.

10hp doesn't mean squat, anyway.

Didn't you just bring your car somewhere to have the brakes fixed?
It was mostly against my will. My boss had it towed. It was either that, or quit 3 days into my new job.

And I take credit for actually making the brakes work when they couldn't.

I mean really in terms of appearance, pretty much the grille and what... the door handle color? Some weird visual differences like that. Plus, around where I live they cost the same, so might as well go 87.

I like the car. The only issue I have is if they truly did start with a pristine 4000 mile survivor. There's gotta be another pretty glean GN that got modded to hell early on that could have been built the same way.
