Alright some i'm spending alittle money to beef up some of my personall protection.

I don't know awhole lot about scopes and sight's so i figured i'd ask for some opinions.

Here's what im looking at..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q8 ... 63BMJQVGFG

Whats the deal with this style scope?

http://www.amazon.com/NcSTAR%C2%AE-Refl ... d_sim_sg_2

Or

http://www.amazon.com/UTG-lden-Image-Gr ... d_sim_sg_3

I've read the descriptions but don't fully understand

And i also don't trust the prices, normally cheap sh*t is just that, cheap sh*t.

Thees will be going on my shotgun, mossberg 590 that's already very accurate with my current setup, I'm just looking for something alittle better than my iron sights, it's kind've hard to use when your in a quick situation.

hey, well first off bsa is usually a fare brand but not sure how it would hold up to a 12 ga. check out this website for a better selection, this is where i buy most of my stuff after i know what i want. if you have a local gun shop close id go there and look at one before you prchase anything

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/

or http://www.sportsmansguide.com/

the open top rod dot is a good design in general but can be very hard to adjust to for the novice shooter. I run a 40mm. design of that bsa on one of my ar's its a good site but not sure how well it would handle a 12 ga. good luck with the hunt for the right optic.

why do you need a sight on a SHOTGUN, for PERSONAL defense? you're going to be under 15ft.
hell, when i was taught combat shooting it was to not even bother aiming. if the front sight is on target, fire. (this is not combat course shooting, this is military combat shooting)

x2! You won't have time to even think about a sight picture in close quarters. You'd be better off becoming proficient with that shotgun to a point where it feels natural to use.

JUNK!!!!!!!!

The recoil of a 12 gauge will knock them right off the rail and if it didn't they would never hold zero.

If you need a scope on a shotgun for CQB, consider yourself already dead!

^what these guys are saying, if you're going to use it for protection you dont need a scope, put a set of ghost ring sights on it. IF you plan on using it for hunting, shooting slugs out of it, bushnell makes a pretty good shotgun scope in the banner series.

I agree with all of the above. For home defense, regular sights or ghost rings. I have a slug barrel also, so I mounted a 2x7x32 Leupold shotgun scope to it and have been very happy with it.

Anyone looking for a long range rifle scope, I have a Leupold 8.5x15x50 LR (long range) with a 30mm main tube. It is new in the box, never mounted but the box has been opened and inspected. $700.

First round 00 buck to hit and stun, second round a slug to finish IT off.

01 buck is nice to, couple of extra balls and just as effective.

Turna, that's a good point. A buddy of mine has a 12 gauge that he uses for home defense. He loads his with BB, then buckshot, then slug, then repeat. According to his logic, that way he can have a mix. If the bad guy is behind a wall, he knows within 3 shots, something will go through it. Or, if he's firing down a hallway, he has a mix of penetration and spread.

I can't argue with that logic, but I personally trust my 10mm and my .380 for my defense guns. I CCW with the .380 ALL the time, and with the 10mm when I'm not at work.

I bet range time gets expensive with those two. I can't believe how much .380 ammo costs compared to other calibers, let alone that 10mm. I'm old school so I have a 1911A1 and a 3" barrel .357. If I had to use either in a HD situation it would be the .45 since it's a slower moving round and less likely to end up in the neighbor's house. They create a nice wound channel too.

But back to the shotguns....I like Federal low recoil 00 buck so my significant other can use it as well if need be. I keep a variety in the side saddle and they're different makes which makes them color coded. The Federal is maroon, the Wolf slugs are clear, and the 3" 000 magnums are green Remingtons. I see the idea behind using lighter loads like BB's, but IMO there won't be any warning shots. Besides, dead offenders can't sue.
