The weather has been in the teens and twenties here so I can't work on it. I'm trying to restore some small parts in the house where its toasty. I gathered ALL my chrome G-Body interior screws up which is a few handfuls and put them in a plastic container full of CLR. Some of them have crud in the phillips slot and some are lightly rusty. I'm going to let them soak overnight. After a rinse, they should look new. I'll pick the best ones to use. Looks like Sunday will be 42 and may prime some stuff hopefully

i tried and was very disappointed with CLR. i ended up using citric acid (the food prep stuff). no gloves needed, does not damage paint, no fumes, enviro friendly, etc etc.

it's used in candy making and such - bought mine from bulk barn, but it was a lil pricey compared to buying online.

On the submarine, if we ran out of citric acid powder, we'd clean the growies out of small seawater heat exchangers with bug juice powder swiped from the galley. Kind of like Mil-Spec Hawaiian Punch. Turned everything red for a short while, but it dissolved the calcium carbonate like brake fluid lifts paint.

damnit that sucks! wonder if anyone has a hardware pack that replaces all the screws/bolts/nuts. or just head to the junkyard and find any GM car of the same vintage, should be able to get some hardware. I always hit up junkyard hondas for spare hardware to use on my civics, bolts are all pretty common sizes, so I get to use perfectly plated interior bolts in the engine bay or wherever I need them.

After reading someones thread on the fiber optic fender indicators it dawned on me. I have a pair of 83 Cutlass fenders with them at my old shop an hour from here. I may grab them and put them on the Salon. Probably have to do a custom light in them though. Maybe LEDs or something. I am pretty bad at leaving my signal on for miles.

I went this morning and got the top of fender indicators off the fenders. The fiber optic wires are broke on one so will experiment with LEDs. I tore apart 5 climate control panels trying to find a good lens. A couple of them looked promising until I polished them. Fine cracks in all. I polished at least 8 knobs and picked three. They are near mint looking. With the dash being part of the live in space, I want it brand new looking.

I used my caliper on the hole in the rubber inserts under the fender indicator housings. Its a hair over 3mm. I found pre wired 3mm 12 volt LEDs on ebay in blue, orange, and white. It's $6 for 10 of each color. So it cost about $20 to have the indicators on my car. I'm thinking the LEDs might be too brite so I may use some transparent black spray paint on the back of the original indicator lens'. I will have to experiment when they get here.

Another one of my detail things I want is the battery and cables. I'm going to get an AC Delco side post. I want my battery cables to be the transparent shielding that's used in car audio stuff. I found the side post battery terminals with the rubber shield like stock on ebay. The positive is red and the negative is black. So basically building stock looking battery cables but with the see through shield look. I even got ARP hex head bolts that look like the OEM bolts with the washer made on. It sucks being a detail guy. It gets expensive but its sure worth it
