I was looking at different consoles online today when i began to wonder if I could make my own. I'm sure I could, but I'm wondering if it sounds practical. I was thinking I would use wood as a base material, get all the dimensions measured and cut out the pieces, then screw them together with drywall screws. Once I do that, I'll sand down all the edges. From here, I can get a sheet of maroon colored vinyl, and wrap it, gluing it all over, and stapling the edges from inside. To dress it up, I can make a varnished sheet metal shift plate, with exposed stainless steel screws, and I can cut a hole out for a factory ash tray and screw it in. Has anyone done this before? If so post pics. Will my idea work?
Make two....I'll buy the other one.....

Hell, if you want one, I don't mind. But I need the stock console dimensions before I start. I was also thinking I'd add some stainless steel cup holder inserts.

Ive always thought about taking a stock console and using it as a template for using aluminum sheeting...then tig welding the parts together. Wouldnt look exactly the same, but the general design and size would be close. The hardest part would be cutting out the pieces to match the original and a cnc plasma cutting table would be the ideal way to do it.

Well, mine will look close to stock, but not perfect. I like cars all stock, and after doing a bucket seat swap in my car, I really want a stock console, but I can't see myself spending $200 plus shipping to buy some console off the Internet that's the wrong color, and I have no clue who the seller is.

I've got a good feeling about this. Be sure to post up lots of pics when it's done.

X2. I'm anxious to see the finished product(s).
I have also considered making my own console.
Keep up the good work!
