Head gasket issue

I thought they were Victor gaskets.

I think its odd though that the holes on the head and the block dont line up. I can understand the gasket having some overlap to restrict. There is pitting on the block from the mismatch. Doesnt seem right to me

I was basing it off the 3680 part number stamped into your head gasket on your first picture.

Do you have a picture of the deck surface without the gasket? I am wondering how much the block supports the gasket and can't tell from your picture.
As stated coolant restrictions are very common in head gasket designs.

You can see the staining on the block around the lower water port to see how the gasket covered half the hole.

Here is a picture of the gasket, look at the size of the pinholes in the gasket that cover the 3 big water ports across the top of the deck.

yes, i get that, but on that block, wouldnt the head holes and the block holes be the same size and in same location? and the gasket is doing the restriction?
on mine, the holes on the block and head dont line up. its not just the gasket. thats what is confusing me. i guess its not big deal, but just think its odd thats all

I have a pair of 307 Felpro head gaskets, they are the usual blue but a few years old. I also have Detroit 260 head gaskets that look like those. I have a few different head gaskets I can compare plus #6 heads and a 403 block. Olds changed the cooling arrangement in 77, later head gaskets will only work on 77 and later blocks but 76 and earlier heads can go on the blocks with later head gaskets or early head gaskets. There is only one 307 and one 403 head gasket, all being made 77 and later.
