I have seen in several forums that people have had the crossover filled..

so i ask a stupid question, where are they, and how do they do it? What is it good for?
Pictures would be nice..

If you are referring to the water jacket cross-over hole, it is the center hole on the intake manifold side of the head. It is there to let coolant flow through the bottom side of the intake manifold to let the intake warm up quicker. This allows the fuel to burn better. If you are wanting to fill the passage up you would just use a standard block filler.

I don't have a picture of it for ya

sounds like it would really hinder the cooling, must have a good performance reason for doing it?

That water passage sole purpose is for the intake manifold, taking it away won't affect the engine cooling system. The warming of the manifold is designed to warm the fuel, to make it burn more efficiently. Cooler fuel will produce a little more power but will also spit out more unburned fuel.

Thank you for god info 🙂 My Heads are lying om the bench waiting for cleanup and springs and adjusable rocker arms. So i think i will do that at the same time.

Ore is it possible to weld it shut on an standard manifold?

There are quite a few aftermarket intakes that don't even have the hole

I am not too sure how well welding would work right there, it would be kind of tricky :?:

I was going to say, I usually promise her a few things, bring flowers and claim ill return the favor. lol jk

Ive never done it myself. but I have heard of people doing it.

The edelbrock performer do they have it blocked off?
Thats the Intake i probably will buy for my 350 engine i'm rebuilding..

I think what he is referring to is actually the exhaust gas cross-over. If you by or have a non-EGR intake then those ports will be blocked off. The ports are for emmission controls with the egr... If your building a non emmissons Hot Rod then dont worry bout it ... some aftermarket intakes and gasket sets come with little sheet metal inserts for that purpose...

The purpose of the exhaust cross over is to send warm air underneath the carburetor to help the car run when it's cold.
When the car is first started, the heat-riser on your exhaust pipe will close, re-directing the warm exhaust under the carb and out the other side. Once the engine gets up to temperature, the thermal spring opens the heat-riser and the exhaust flows normally.

My Edelbrock intake came with steel plugs to insert into the heads to block the crossover.
It took a ton of time carefully filing them to get them to fit but it worked.

Lots of people also fill in the recessed area between the center exhaust ports.
The local shop that re-did my heads welded this up for me.
