Is there a diffrence in the length of either the column or the intermediate shaft?
I have an 82 Camino SS originaly a column shift. I bought a floor shift column from a 86 Regal.
I did not get the intermediate shaft with the sale. My original 82" shaft lacks about 1" from being long enough to put the bolt back into the column and still have enough contact on the splines at the steering box.
Am I doing something wrong or is there two diffrent inter. shafts between these cars?
Any help would be much appreciated

I thought they all interchanged - I'd go to a junkyard with a measuring tape. Surely you can find at least one variety of G body there.

Sounds like your original shaft is compressed, remove the shaft from the steering box and put one end in a vice. The two halves slide over each other.
