Help oil pressure drops while driving, car dies

Greetings Zdeckick & all; I mis spoke the reluctor is the 8 pointed star (MSD?) on the distributor shaft. And the GM part I'm speaking of is the "pick up coil pole". I guess that I either forgot the correct name or just called it the reluctor pick up. And I could still be confusing MSD parts & GM parts as it has been years since I had a GM (non adjustable pain in the A_s) distributor apart. Anyway the little green wire I speak of is attached to the OD portion of the "pick up pole coil" & commonly breaks as the vacuum advance is always moving the OD portion. Quite commonly after the engine is off (no vacuum) the wire makes contact & will fire only to kill as soon as the vacuum single changes a bit. Let us know what you fine as I'm very curious, Ole' Bob.

So looked at it today, the green wire on the ignition module is broke off, I would assume it's just easier to buy a new distributor?

Crimp a new end on it, first.

The 2in of that green wire came off with the ignition module, the green wire is hard to reach and can't seem to pull it up to splice into it.
 
Hi Zdeckich & all; Hey you owe me a beer, did I call it or what? Don't buy another distributor, just fix that one. It's easy, drive the pin out of the gear, pull off gear & slide out shaft. If you're lucky, similar to what you might be doing Wednesday evening? But before ya drive the pin out check the end play as GM usually has around a 1/8" Way too much (you can buy shim packet yet from GM cheep)! If ya need the part # I think I have it somewhere? Ideal end play is .017" to .028". Shining the extra play out will help throttle response a Bunch. And if ya gotta buy a new distributor get one that can be adjusted internally, like a MSD. A GM HEI is nearly impossible to adjust the timing stop. A MSD is like a picnic without fried chicken, kinda hard to do if ya got big fingers with distributor in the car. Small nimble fingers, it can be done with distributor in the car! Maybe some one makes a HEI style with adjustable stops?? Anyone know? None the less I feel the GM HEI's out-put falls as requirements go up & is more pron to heat problems when header are applied. Hope I helped, Ole' Bob.
Ps: When ya got it apart put some Just a bit weaker spring son it.

You did call it. This will be the first time i ever pulled out a distributor, guess we shall see how it goes lol. Should be a fun little project. Thanks again for everyones help. Much appreciated.

The green wire comes from the pick up coil. If you play with that wire too much trying to repair it you have a good chance of breaking the connection at the pick up coil. The wire gets brittle from the heat and age. There is a spring pin in the gear that you need to remove, Slide the gear off and pay attention to any shims that sit between the dear and the housing. The you just slide the shaft out and there is one bolt that hold the pick up coil in place. The pick up coil you have is the original as the newer ones have a connector with the two wires instead of the two separate wires. The are 3 different connectors so make sure you get the right one. If that green wire had broke off the pick up coil there would not have been any backfiring or misfires as there is when the connection at the module or the module goes bad.
