I've tried hooking the black hose to a vaccume line so I guess that isn't it. I think its one of the sensers

if it is a vaccum resevoir then it would have a one way valve on it...how big is that vaccum line?....

The vaccum line is thin made of a plastic hose with a rubber end on it which is around a 1/14 ". The line is connected to a 4 inch plastic ball which is kind of hard to miss.

that could be your line to your dash heater/ac control and the vaccum source is on the manifold in back of the carb.....and those lines were also used for the map sensor and air pump set up....is there no sticker on your fan shroud that gives you a line routing?....

There is a routing diagram but its very confusing, I have the main lines on the manifold in correct, the diagram doesn't show where the lines from heater /ac go, the big plastic ball. Thanks for the insight. after reading a manuel I got, I'm beginning to think its coming from a leak in the intake manifold. The engines beginning to ping and knock after shutting the car off. Maybe a new gasket will help.

if the engine is pinging and knocking when you shut it down that's run on..that is caused by the timing or carbon buildup on the pistons or the choke is stuck........take a look at your carb and make sure the vaccum break is working and is opening the choke plate ...if it's not or not opening enough that could be the reason the car is stalling after a few minutes......and make sure your eletric choke is working and check for current..

The vaccum break is working fine, the engine is a 1987 new from gm goodwrench,it has about 30000 miles on it at most, so I dont think its carbon build up. It could be the electric choke I'll have to check that out thanks Rob.
