Help with mini starter

You're absolutely right! It's the little things that are up all my time this summer.. but that's part of the game i guess. I'll figure out soon enough what my plan of action is as I really don't have any other choice but
to finish what I've started.. plus it'll be that much sweeter in the end once its all said and done. I just wish I could push back winter 1 more month lol
You can try denting the header tube that is contacting the starter....obviously the best way is to remove the header (I know it's a real PITA with full tubes) but then you can avoid grinding off part of the starter mounting pad.
That stuff happens to us all buddy...hell I painted my column 7 times before I was happy with it....numerous silly issues that has delayed my resto into an almost 5 years build so far!!!
Just keep on digging you will get there, on behalf of us all here....we are rooting for you!

Thanks for words of encouragement. I'm going to have a look tonight and see what my best options are other than the long tube headers and order them asap so I can have them changed out early next week and count it as a learning experience

Thanks again and I'll definitely keep you posted on the progress

Unfortunately it's the actually mounting block that's hitting header. Might be able to cut the corner off of it.. I'll have think over my options and make a decision on what to do tomorrow. It's always something it seems lol

I guess you have a 168 tooth flexplate, what about switching the flexplate to a 153 tooth so you can move the starter in and use the outside hole. Or if it's not hitting to hard on the header you could always put a dent in the tube for clearance. You mentioned that if the starter didn't fit you could take it back but if you cut a corner off you'd be stuck with it.

What about using a 1996-1999 PMGR starter for a Vortec 350/5.7? Its tiny and strong.

Thanks for the tips guys. I ended up keeping my new mini starter but decided to order a new set of long tubes that will fit everything properly rather than try and use the ones that are in there

Thanks again!
