Hood Hinges update

Struts yes, balls not so much.

I’ve been searching in the LiftSupport website. Mine are 80lb struts. Is that what you used? I zoomed in in your picture but I can’t make it out.

I have to say though, mine are the precise length to work at the hinge point that you indicated. Thanks a ton because I was going to go off in a much more complicated direction.

I have the 130lbs struts but i still have the factory hood. Just whatever size ball your strut takes is what you need to order. Side note I did have to trim the stud on the upper mount to clear the fender.

I wish one of you guys had a cowl hood. Im still trying to figure out a solution to my mess. LOL
I measured the distance from the top of the fender to where the hood bolts onto the hinge on my 81 and theres a full 1" difference compared to the cowl hood on the wagon. Most people tell me if I want the hood to open right I need to cut the end of the cowl. UGH.
Im going to hate using a stick to hold the stupid hood open. LOL

Couldn’t you extended your upper mount by a few inches to reduce the amount the hood is opening?

This is what Im dealing with.
You can see the angle of the hood due to the length of the scoop. The geometry is different than yours. The shocks dont have the right angle/strength to hold the hood up. This week Im going out to the junkyard to take measurements of the setup on the Regal thats there. This has become a pain in the a$$.

Following this thread with great interest as this is a project I want to tackle as well.

Hang in there man; I hate it when projects spiral out and mushroom past the amount of time and/or money you thought you would expend. But, hang in there, you'll get it and when you do it will all be worth it!

Man there is a lot of overhang with that cowl it almost looks like it was designed to be trimmed.

And if possible, what I would do to make it work.

Anythings possible I guess but its the last thing I want to do. The paint job came out really nice and Im not sure if I want to take the chance of the hood, header panel and tops of the fenders not matching. As we all know silver is a tough color.

Did you paint it or have someone do it? I'm betting a pro can do the edge & keep coverage minimized (local) to the very back of the hood making things less obvious. Yes, sucks that you might have to do something like this but if it allows normal hood function.... It is what it is.
