How do I know if I flooded my engine?

Does the oil smell like gas?
Put new plugs in it- short startups will foul them like that.

Contrary to Turna's advice- once I realize I've pumped the gas too much, I'll floor the gas while cranking it to get more air in. Sometimes it works.

Pretty sure those heads are cheap procomps with Blueprints name and price on them.

Lots of complaints about poor machining.

They may or may not be an issue.

what size carb do you have on it and what is your fuel pressure?

Oddly enough, I read about "flooring the gas" on another forum.

what carburetor do you have?

Holley 600cfm 80457-10

I believe the carb is too small, but it was just a loner after I got scammed on ebay last year from another one that I thought was new. I'm going EFI, I just want to make sure I have everything on point before I spend the money. I ordered new plugs so I'll change those when they get here.

I'm not sure what my fuel pressure is right now.

Most carbs should have an "unloader" feature built into the linkage. When you floor it it when the engine is off the choke flap should open a little.

Sounds like a rabbit hole to me....
The plugs(j* ones at that in a GM🙂) are sooted. So, clean or replace them. Make sure they are gapped properly. Get a HEI spark tester and check to make sure you have enough spark. Take a fuel sample to see if you have water or any other crap. When all of the above is confirmed to be good......Hold gas pedal to floor and crank and see if it starts. If not, pull a plug and see if wet. If so, let me know and will go to next step

I replaced the plugs (same NGKR5672A-9 plugs that were there before). I gapped them to .045 and it started on the first try. I let it run for two minutes then cut the car off.

I believe that the car is running rich, but I haven't confirmed that.
