How Much Spray Paint?

Quick poll to help me make a lazy decision! I am tired of looking at the Monte being 3 different colours/finishes. I want to bring it back to two(ish) while I incrementally do the bodywork panel by panel.

Estimated number of 340g cans of semi-gloss BLACK spray paint needed to paint the quarters, doors and roof?

I am thinking 10.

I don't have an answer to your poll. What I do have I'd some anecdotal experience. I did a rehab on my little trailer 2 years ago. I was going to buy 3 or 4 rattle cans and it occurred to me that there might be a cheaper way. I bought a $9.99 (laugh all you want, it's a ****ing trailer) Harbor Freight gun and a $9.99 can of Rustolium satin black. You might need 2 qts to do a whole car. Turned out okay for less than $20.

I'm w/them on this task.

Some Rustoleum or farm-store brand bulk semi-gloss shot w/a cheap gun. The Harbor Freight guns actually work pretty decent despite their cheap price. Much better coverage & consistency. Rattle-canning that much area will be streaky w/the darker color. I did some of my dually bed/well tub stuff w/the Rustoleum & liked it. I even applied some of it w/the cheap $.99 foam paint rollers. I was surprised how well it evened out using the rollers as that wasn't expected. With the gun it was very nice appearing & all but eliminated the streak issue.

As much as using a gallon of Tremclad, Rustoleum, Krylon, etc is the cost effective and better option - I am not keen on the flash/cure/recoat time they offer being oil-based. According to my research these spray bombs use a more traditional solvent based formula - hence the 8 minute flash time. Additionally, putting the gallon solutions over the remaining factory lacquer is going to make a gummy mess even thicker and gummier to remove when the time comes.

I am only worried about uniform coverage, not finish quality. Looking good at 100km/h and 100 meters away is sufficient until we can get around to doing it properly.
