How Streetable is a TH350?

I had a 410hp, th350, 3.42 combo in the past.....fast fun and fine around town, hated it on the freeway. I always wanted that 4th gear and I think the motor did too.
IMO many trans builders will try to talk you out of a 2004r simply because they lack experience with them, but if you plan any sort of freeway cruising I recommend you pay the bux for a well built 2004r and 3.42 to 3.73 gears, you'll be happier in the long run...
My .02

I dont see 17mpg with a 430hp small block and th350 regardless of rear gear  I think with the 200-4R and 3.73s you would have a nice balance of low end and top end. If you are looking for that mileage with that power why not go with an LS??? Before you say "because of everyone is doing that" remind yourself you're about to shove another chevy in an Olds

If you are in the west end of the city I have heard many good things about Milton Transmission on Steeles. My vote would be for the 200r4 over the th350. The extra gear ( OD ) will allow a better rear gear to help get the car up and moving.

When I was running the 350c + 3.42 rear gear I would cruise 120kph at 3500-4000 rpm. With the 200r4 + 3.73 rear gear I cruise 120kph at 3000-3500 rpm and the car is a little quicker off the line.

I would only expect to see 17 mpg on the highway BTW. Mostly I get 10-12 mpg with a warmed over 350 + 200r4

my caballero is my daily it runs a th350 its great.i have no complaints.but if you like a firm shift you need a shift kit for sure lol i wanna rebuild mine and put a kit in.imma go with 3.23 rear gear

My Malibu has a th350 with 3.42 gears and 28" rear tire, 3400 rpms at 75mph. (assuming my math is correct and i put the correct speedo gears in) With 3" duels and loud mufflers it aint that fun on longer trips

I gave up on TH350's I tore the support lugs out of three cases. I even tried K-Savers. So when I had a chance to get a 700 I jumped on it.

I guess it could be said you are a transmission abuser...

Well i want to state I dont give a care about chevy or olds motors in these cars. second of all i'm not on the budget to do a ls swap properly. The 383 is the best choice for bang for buck im not trying to impress these 50 year old guys that think im a peice of sh*t for putting in a chevy into my olds.. I want to give the ricers in my town a beat down and thats it.

As for mpg i dont really care i just want a car that can still open up on the highway not be bogged down

If you went overdrive it would proably be cheaper and safer to go with a place like Bowtie Overdrives or other companies like them. They have a good reputation and offer warranties. A 700r4 or 200-4r built to handle 450+hp would be atleast $1500 plus the converter. No shop around me would do one cheaper and offer a warranty. If you are really looking to save money why not go with a TH400? They are alittle heavier but are almost indestructible and like the TH350 theres a huge aftermarket for them. Just some things to think about man
