How to Regester an out a state car in cali??

ok so i have a quick question i bought a 81 malibu wagon in reno nevada and brought it home to california i have the nevada pink slip that he signed over to me and bill of sale and i was going to hit the dmv and was just wondering what to expect like fees inspection ext. as it sits right now it has cats on it and smog pump and the a.i.r pipes hooked all up it doesnt have plates on it so i know i need to pay for ca plates and if anyone has ever registered a out of state car in ca id appreciate some info on it thanks

well gonna have to pay for plates like 30 bucks.. gonna have to pay the taxes on it for how much you bought it for... usually like 10 percent.. so if you got it for 1000 then hundred in taxes you pay.. plus registration usually around 100 depending on model... and finally smog cert your gonna need and when you have that plus insurance your all done...

nice good to know and i like that paint on ur elco ima shoot my wagon pretty soon with blitz black i was kina tosn it around as a idea since i already have the paint .... ima just do it its better than the paint now

ok get it smogged before regular smog shop is fine no need for test only....if you can get smog and insurance 1st to save a trip also they will need to see the car to verify the vin normally they will have you pull into a special spot. if your going to dmv make an appoitnmentand if you have aaa you can do it there it will be easy but yeah your gonna need it smogged and insured to get plates same day to me do all the leg work before hand so you only have to make one trip....where in cali you at would love to see that wagon.....also be smart dont mention the motor swap to the smog guy amd if needed retard the timing a bit to make it pass...

Im in stockton ca and ima smog it while I still have the 6cyl in and smog pump intact before I do the motor swap I went to dmv today payed all fees 130 buks and got the plates and moving permit now I gotta smog it and get the vin checked
