They were technically A body or A series from 78 to 1982 then gm switched to calling the the G series or as we all say G Body
That’s what I’ve learned over the years and the service manuals sort of back that up but 78-87 were all basic the same sheep in different clothing
From about 2003-2009 I Did service Procedure validation, and labor time studies for GM, and the “official” nomenclature of any given platform is _-Car/Truck... for example the Pontiac G6/Malibu was Z-Car, Cobalt/G5 was A-Car etc. just a piece of useless information from my head to yours!!
