Here is your hurricane Sandy update:

Sandy, aka Frankenstorm, is about 250 miles south east off the coast of Cape May NJ. Sandy is on track for a direct hit somewhere in southern Ocean County NJ between 8pm and 12 midnight tonight (Monday). Sandy will linger over us under later on Tuesday as she moves north west.

Thus far - NJ barrier islands are being evacuated, and most are already flooded.
Toms River is without power
Many boardwalks are already under water.

This is a serious storm. If you are told to evacuate - DO IT!

I am in the EMS office now, so I'll post more updates as they come in.

Be safe guys. Do what is necessary for you and your family's safety.
This storm is not something to take lightly.
Best of luck.

Latest Sandy Update:

Winds have picked up significantly here in southern NJ. Hurricane have picked up speed and strength and is expected to make landfall at or before 8pm this evening. Many coastal towns are already flooded or without power. Barrier islands and towns close to or on the water have been evacuated. Many shelters are full. The worst part - the hurricane has not hit us yet.

Find shelter, be safe!

Looks like we will be getting hit pretty good. I hope you guys near the Jersey Shore stay safe down there. No matter how bad we get it in my area it will never be as bad as you guys down there.

Yeah according to the weather channel it's heading directly for where I live... They're freaking me out saying that the power could be out "potentially for weeks".

But hopefully they're blowing it all out of proportion and it'll only be out for a couple hours or a day...

If you need any help when this is all over hit me up.

Thanks - I appreciate the thoughts!

I just spoke with my wife who's home (I'm at work in the EMS dispatch center) and just like here the winds are picking up and the power is flickering. The worst is yet to come. I think the cleanup and re-building will be huge. I was watching Billy Connolly's Route 66 over the weekend on Netflix. Billy travels the entire length of RT66 on his trike from Chicago to LA, and meets many different people along the way. In St. Louis, he met a group of people who just had their homes leveled by a tornado. Something he saw stuck with me. The mood was upbeat. They were talking about rebuilding and coming out better off. And everyone was being kind to each other and helping one another. It was a huge group effort, like a big family. I certainly hope we can emerge from this in the same way.

it's too bad that it takes a catastrophe like this to turn back the clock and get people working together for no other purpose than to help each other. I think this was bearing down on Mark (Bonnewagon) so if he's reading this it'd be nice to hear from him...hope everyone stays safe

Sandy UPDATE:

The worst part of the storm is hitting the Jersey shoreline now. High sustained winds, heavy rain. It's here. Mass power outages and lots of fires. Many trees down and flooding is getting worse. High tide is at 8pm (now) so that is adding to the problem.

Stay indoors, stay safe, and be smart!

They reported one death in Toronto, Ontario, she got hit by flying debris...and the wind is nothing compared to what the East coast is being hit with
