Hey guys I've got a major problem and I'm officially stumped. This has been an on going problem for about 2 weeks now.
So here it is my car "surges" during acceleration and I cannot figure it out I've been through all probable causes and nothing (new fuel pump, freshly professionally rebuilt carb, new distributor cap, wires, plugs, and Pcv valve.
I have no vaccum leaks I'm 100% positive about that.
What the car is doing i can only describe as this when taking off from a stop or slow speed my car violently jerks back and forth and goes very slowly which almost killed me today. Now when I'm cruising the car is perfect it runs nice and idles nice. Just under load. I've taken it to the shop several times they keep saying ok we fixed it here ya go and it runs fine for a day. One other thing is during this surging I hear/feel a loud pop near the gas pedal, not sure if that's a backfire or what.

Please guys I just want to get my car running due to it being my daily driver.
To anyone that can point me in the right direction thank you so much.

Transmision/torque converter issue?
I know on my daily driver 1.8L I had to unplug the electronic torque lock up or something along those line.
Unplugged it ~10 years ago..

What size carb and motor? Mine was doing what what you said and I fattened up the feeder screw on the carb an 1/8 of a turn until it got better for me and me local carb guy said I needed the extenders for Edelbrock carb on hard excelleration I bog down and sometimes it lurches......running a new mech Holley fuel pump.......still tuning on it.......

Well it's a 231 v6 with a Rochester dual jet e2me.
I don't think it has feeder screws on it unless you mean the mixture screws in that case. Then yes it does. However I've tried adjusting them up and down and every which way with no luck

have you checked the O2 sensor? or the spark plug condition: overheated/clean/fouled? when you changed parts, did it change anything? even for a day oy 2? are you sure the carb is properly tuned?

You say it ran fine for a day & no jerking under acceleration after getting it out of the repair shop ?

Plugged cat or muffler? How about the idle solenoid in the carb itself? I am not to familiar with this carb? does it have a Throttle Position Sensor?

X2

Reach under the car and unplug the wire for the torque converter lock up and see if it goes away.

I'd ask them at the shop what they fixed, if it ran good for a day after the fix it sounds like they might be on the right path...
