I must confess my irrational desire for early W body coupes

Even though it was a 4 door I thought the Bonneville SSEI were pretty sporty looking and probably reasonably fast.

I never really cared about any of them when new but have a soft spot for any older 80's/early 90's GM in good shape, because you just never see them on the roads anymore. Talking about any fwd car really, the g-bodies and f-bodies have enough support/interest, even seeing a plain Celebrity going down the road in nice shape (at all really) has me do a double take.

I was impressed with my H Body, a 90' LeSabre as my daily driver for about 7 years, comfy, good reliable runner, room under the hood if needed to work on it, great sightlines, body held up decently too. Sold it when buying a 02' Regal GS. I'm personally not as impressed with W Bodies based on that, the drivetrain (especially L67) was great, comfy, thought they look pretty sharp but the suspension issues/quality was one thing, rust issues were another. Rocker panels started disappearing when 10 years old, the radiator support rotted out while driving, luckily just enough held in the radiator from totally dropping onto the road. All vehicles rust here but the metal thickness/how quickly that rusted was disappointing. Definitely more small issues than the H Body had, seems the design/build quality in many areas was lacking.

Cool seeing the earlier W Bodies though, the later ones I still see enough, although I used to see GTP's all over it seemed, now they fall into the double take category.

Some of the GM stuff from the FWD era is marginally interesting, but the G-Bodies are way more interesting to me for their customization and hot-rodding potential. They’re truly the last of the old-school RWD, body-on-frame mid-size cars.

Most of them are pretty “meh” from the factory mechanically, but they give you a great blank slate for hot-rodding. You just don’t have as many options with the W-Body or other FWD cars.

If I had the money for a collection, either to keep as is/stock or modify, a Celebrity Eurosport VR and 6000 STE in AWD form would be in there. If I could find a VR wagon I'd be tempted to make it a daily driver. The 6000 would need to get modified so I can burn rubber on all 4 corners.

I LOVE this thread! Being a "G" body family, you try to tread lightly on perhaps revealing your like for other GM cars in fear you might get exiled lol. BUT since this thread popped up, its awesomely refreshing to see others liking the same as I do. I too have always had a spot in my heart for the GM W/H/C bodied FWD cars. I'm not saying everyone of them is great, but a few stood out that were awesome in their own respect. Take the 1986 Lesabre Grand National, the Lesabre T TYPE, the ultra rare Pontiac Grand Prix ASC mclaren Turbo from 1989-90. and SO many more mentioned and not mentioned above....These nitch vehicles were awesome to me, and are far and few today. A lot of "old school" thinking thought its not worth collecting or it wouldn't be collectable, if its FWD. Sadly many to most are gone. There are still some fine examples out there, and if someone was truly contemplating getting one, a nice example would be recommended since many parts such as trim and interior pieces are long gone and would be hard to find for any resto project.

My little sister had a 93 Lumina Z34 with the 3.4 DOHC. I loved how the car looked an ran. I hated working on it.

I know it's an N body, not a W...
But I want an Olds Cutlass Calais SO BAD!
