Well, Enkei was not the only company to make mesh wheels. American Racing, Ronal, BBS, etc. all had a version of the Enkei 92 ( or something similar). Plus, they need not be mesh either as the Ronal 5 spoke ( I will get the model number) is also a proper wheel style for these cars. Interestingly, the Enkeis seem to be fairly light. I weighed one of mine with a 225 60 16 on it the other day when I took it off to prime the car, and combined they were just under 42lbs. Compared to an AMC 15x7 rally I had left over from a Go Pak Javelin AMX with 225 70 15's it was 12-15 lbs lighter. I don't have a figure for the wheel by itself, but the next time I have the tires dismounted I will bring a scale. As another side note, the Enkei 92's (or the ARE knockoffs, I forget which) were the stock wheels used on the original Saleen Mustangs. I wish someone would start making these wheels again. I think there would be a market for them in many different circles. After all, ARE just reintroduced the Vector, and Ansen Sprint slot mags from the 70's. Why not an 80's wheel too?
As for a NASCAR wing, I would not use it because it would be a mixing of styles. The best bet would be searching out a factory wing or spoiler for the trunk if one was offered, like the Monte SS one. You could do a NASCAR themed car and have it work though.
You can find 17s at least used fairly cheap these days. You also can buy 17" tires cheap. Tire rack has a 245/45/17 for $63. To me it does not have to be as much retro as better for cheap. On the spoiler thing a lot of the Olds guys use the spoilers off an early 90s firebird. You lengthen the stands only. I paid $35 for mine. Looks almost identicle to what Olds put on the 83/4 Hurst Olds. I also like other updates / upgrades that are not immediately seen like used an overdrive transmission, lock up converter, limited slip rear instead of locker, a factory ralley guage pack, an electric in-tank fuel pump, electric fans, a serpentine system.
17" wheels are tires are so common now they are really fairly cheap. You can get the black Cragar wheels for around $60 each and Summito tires for around $70 each.
Of course one thing you'll really notice after running 17's is how bad the factory brakes suck! Domino effect...
