In my experience on an '87 Cutlass, a 17x8" wheel with 4" back spacing and a 24545R17 tire will rub on the inside of the outer fender.

This is at stock height with stock shocks and when hitting a large bump or dip in the road. Switching to Bilstein shocks up front and removing the chrome wheel well trim helped. At least to the point that it would try to jerk the steering wheel out of your hand. However you wouldn't get away with lowering the vehicle much at all.

A 4.5" BS would have worked better but then might have had slight rubbing at full lock on the sway bar/frame.

Any reason why your going to a 245/40 tire and not a 245/45? The 40 series is going to look tiny at only 24.7" tall. That about 1" less than the 45 series and about 1.5" from a stockish 26" diameter.

Yeah 45 series would probably be better then, I'm gonna have eibach springs and edelbrock ias shocks.
I just want the fattest tire under it, I'm gonna try a little auto x this year

On the rear 4" BS is perfect with an 8" wide wheel. You could also go to a 255/45R17 with a 17x8" wheel back there.

what size are your tires?
245/40 or 245/45?

Neither, I used to run 235/50 but now 225/50. I may go 234/45 or 245/40 in the future, and I forsee no problems.

i dont mean to hijack but since were talking about 17" rims........

i am getting a set of torque thrush in 17"
i am looking for the correct width for the front and rear rims, back spacing and matching tire sizes also.

i know nothing about rims and am learning real quick as to what to do and not to do

the reason i am running the 17" wheels is for the C5/firebird disc conversion i am going to be doing
