I don't know much about automatics but someone here should know why it wont shift. If you drop the pan and valve body maybe that mechanism will be exposed

I agree, time for a look see. Drop the pan, avoiding an ATF shampoo, and look at the gear selector shaft. It has a row of teeth on it and a large toothed spring that makes the snapping sound you hear when you select gears. The spring may be broken or debris jammed up in there. The other thing is the selector shaft moves a plunger through the valve body which opens and closed fluid circuits which determine the trans operation. It should move freely, and if not, internal damage or debris is indicated. Hope this helps.
