Since I have my engine out and have about 5k on it and I thought about installing a bigger camshaft. The engine is just a stock turn key ZZ4 with out any modifications. The engine will be bolted up to a 2004r with 2500 stall and 8.5 rear with 3.42 gears. Or should I wait and see how it performs with the 3.42 gears vs the 2.41 that it had when I swapped the ZZ4 in?

wait and try it out, if yours is like mine with the airplane gears, its faster in 2nd gear than 3rd. lol

if you do go with a different cam and the cam that is there now is P/N 10185071 let me know how much you want for it...

When I had my '86 grand prix with ZZ3, 700r4 & 3.73 with headers, full dual exhaust and weighing 3700 lbs. I still used the stock electronic carburetor and the stock distributor with the ECM operating them with a 350 HO prom from GM. I ran a best of [email protected] mph at Milan dragway on my street tires. The ZZ3 cam is the same cam in the ZZ4 and it idles smooth, makes lots of torque and could get 20 mpg on the freeway 14-16 around town. This was my daily driver for many years so I did not want to go too big on the cam.

Well I decided to just give it a try first and If I don't care for the performance I will upgrade the cam before the car gets painted.

Glad I waited to try the 3:42 gears first because it feels like a brand new engine. I broke the tires loose like nothing!
