I have a th350 in my cutlass now with a full manual vlave body and since my cutlass came with the 2004r and a console i'd like to do a lttile 79 H/O tribute by adding an aftermarket his n hers shifter to my car then buying a plate for the top to make it look like the 1979 h/o did.The shifter has a reverse light switch but no neutral safety switch and i am stumped on hwo to wire these thing up.Can i use my stock NSS and just wire up the reverse light switch?or are both tied in together stock?and what do i wire up for the aftermarket NSS and reverse light switch?

If you still have the rod the goes from the column down to the transmission then you don't have to worry about wiring anything.

What I've done in the past is to take the braket that is supplied with the new shifter then cut the old gear selector bracket and weld the old to the new. This way you can add the new shifter and retain the stock NSS and backup light function without having to splice into your wiring.

so if i keep the rod in the car hooked up,i'll still be able to get the keys from the locking column, and where the hell is the stock reverse light switch located in the car?the least amount of work i have to do the better

X2... I didn't touch a thing when I put in my shifter.

so,if i just install the shifter, hook the linkage from the transmission to the shifter and leave all else alone i'll have working reverse lights?sorry,i have never done this before,i hate electronics

Yup.
If you install the aftermarket shifter bracket and then put the stock one back over it, everything will work as intended.

My reverse lights work fine and my mechanical neutral safety works too, though sometimes it's a bit tricky to get it to start in neutral.
