I have a 83 olds cutlass calasis with a 307y. I have a oil leak on the driver's side front of the motor. I thought it was the walve cover gaskets but after replacing them the leak came back. I have replaced the valley pan years ago because it was leaking water at the back. Is it common for these motors to leak oil here and fall onto the exaust. Please help thanks Shanezoid.

I would make sure the oil pressure sensor is not leaking or the timing cover gasket is not bad first.

Oil pressure switch no but the timming cover is a good question. Thanks I will look. Shanezoid.

I would also say no on the timming cover gasket. I looks like it is comming from the valve cover and running right down to the #1 plug and dropping onto the exaust pipe that is what has me confused. could it be comming from under the head? Thanks Shanezoid.

Its gotta be a valve cover. Oil cant travel upwards to the valve cover from the intake.

I bought new ones today and am going to install that one this week but i have to go to work today and tomorrow so I will see what happens. When I took the cover off it didn't look pinched though. Could it be comming from under the head? Thanks Shanezoid.

Valve cover gaskets are really sensitive to how tight they are tightened. It also depends on the brand and type of gasket you use. If it is leaking from under the head, you probably would be having some bigger problems.

That's kind of what I figured. When I install this one I am going to finger tighten and 24 hours later tighten with a socket. Thanks Shanezoid.

The problem is that the Olds valve covers are designed for ten bolts. The five bolt setup stinks. These are designed to use RTV, not a gasket.
