You could try SEM texture coating prior to painting the color coat.

So just scuff what I've already painted, clean, apply sem texture coating and then shoot it with the sem color paint?

Would you texturizing everything or only the damaged pieces?

Will any can spray bed liner work? That's a great idea I never thought about doing that to fill in the the gouges where the plastic has flaked off from being sun baked. Then just shoot your color right over top of the bed liner?
PM HAFROD and see what he says, or maybe he'll see this.

I have never tried to bring panels back to life that were deteriorating to the point where the texture is gone or they actually require sanding, I myself would probably look for replacements.
I have also heard of using textured bedliner but even though it will look far better than a sanded panel I doubt any fix will truly replicate the factory grain look.

Gently sand them down with a red scotch brite The panels will become perfectly smooth.

If you want the texture back SEM sells the GM texture in a rattle can.

Spray it on then spray your color choice.

I'm not as much concerned with getting the factory look. I just want a clean looking nicely painted interior . I'm going to give the bed liner a try I will post back with some feedback
