I think the older I get the sadder I get on Memorial Day. But I am not sad about our young men and women in the service. Talk to them. They are us. They care. They know the risks and they go anyway. We are in good hands as always. We will lose some. Many more will come home all busted up. Because it is a dangerous world and we have the best military on the planet. God bless them all.................................................................................................................................................................................................

Every year that goes by I see less VFW groups being allowed outside stores to fundraiser donations. 🙁

It used to be if you were out this weekend you would see more people wearing the poppys than not. Now, it's rare to see anyone who does, so, when I see the vets outside the bill that goes into the jar gets bigger. Last year the men stopped me and asked if I made a mistake and put the wrong bill in, said nope, that's the right one and wished it were more.

Unfortunately, too many today see this weekend as a paid vacation day off and a bunch of sales. Too few remember what this weekend is supposed to mean. Which is why your meme is too appropriate. The latter category is getting far too big.

A weekend of remembrance, appreciation and RESPECT.

I know it means different things to different folks, but ………. I know what it means to me. Freedom on someone else’s dime. I owe them.

I've had friends of mine not make it back from Iraq, I did 4 tours over there.

I remember this day for what it means, our brothers/sisters in arms who made the ultimate sacrifice and didn't make it back.

What saddens me more is what the above posts reference, and that is what our society has become.

Less Patriotism across this whole country because that's "racist".. ontop of our current military that IMO is a joke. I got out in 2011 and that was on the starting edge of the crap we have now. It's pathetic.

All done for a reason...

I thought basic was too easy in 2004. It clearly hasn't gotten any harder.

Thank You to all the family members who have lost loved ones defending the freedoms we have. While those of us that are thankful and appreciative for what they have given, we can never truly understand the loss their families endures. We, at our house, are Pro Military, Law Enforcement, First Responder. And if that makes me a "racist" then, Pfff, So What! Thank You all Military for keeping me and my family protected.
